Fall Mission Opportunities – 2022

The work of DPC’s Mission Committee combined with the efforts of all of you who take part in these efforts is crucial to so many charitable and vital organizations. While we support important causes that help those in need, it does not mean our efforts can’t bring joy to our hearts – and some laughter along the way.

Recently, DPC members Brian and Mary Lee Reiff (Mission Committee Moderator), Tanner Benson, Amy Edenson, Laura Mendelson, Nancy Roe, and Mark Vandersall shared in fun and fellowship while rolling up their sleeves at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia – with whom we are honored to partner with and lend support to their unbelievable ministry. During this trip to Bethel, the group helped with a complete overhaul of the church’s kitchen – which makes it possible to feed all those who rely on the church’s weekly meal program.

Some of the crew offered to share some photos and a lighthearted glimpse at their time as amateur kitchen-builders! Enjoy! And don’t forget to check out all the other fun and meaningful mission opportunities down below – including a wonderful day of food gleaning followed by a picnic lunch on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Carversville Farm!

Tanner: “How Many DPC members does it take to take down a cabinet? In this case, many hands make light work! The DPC team in action taking down old cabinets to prep for the new ones.” Mark: “Taking down the old cabinets turned out to be a bit of a challenge because they were installed with old bolts into concrete and it was difficult to get a wrench on the bolt heads. But, with help from many hands, we were able to get them safely removed!” Laura: “I was hoping that the bolts didn’t suddenly release so that Tanner and I wouldn’t be crushed. How old did you say those cabinets were?”
Amy: “Do we really need that metal measuring devise thingy Nancy? Can’t we just wing the placement of the cabinet knob?”
Amy: “Power tool usage 101. Sometimes the drill bit goes in, but in doesn’t come out. LOL”

Mark: “Brian and I were trimming and fitting laminate sheets for installation on the kitchen walls behind the stove and sink area. It turned out to be somewhat of a challenge because, being an old building, none of the walls were square and plumb!”
Tanner: “It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do! Getting into all the tight spaces to freshen up the kitchen!”
Tanner: “Bethel’s ministry serves so many in the neighborhood, they deserve to have a kitchen that works for their needs. It has been a privilege to be a small part of such an amazing group of individuals.”

Carversville Farm All-DPC Food Gleaning Day and Picnic!

There are many farms in our area which provide produce to our food pantries and hunger programs. They need our help planting, weeding, and harvesting.  Join us for an all-DPC family work day.  We will meet at Carversville Farm to volunteer with weeding and harvesting on Saturday, September 10, from 9 am until 11 am.  Following our time at the Farm, we will move to Hansel Park for a bring-your-own picnic lunch (beverages and dessert provided).  Come for both parts of the day, come just to work on the Farm, or just come for lunch at 11:15 am.  Please sign up here: https://bit.ly/DPC-CF

Caring for Friends

The Caring for Friends program assists home-bound residents by providing food, friendship, emergency aid, and advocacy. For more information or to volunteer, contact the church office at 215-348-3531. Look for our sign-up sheets on the bulletin board in Andrews Hall to donate casseroles, vegetables, stewed tomatoes or applesauce.  Keep watch for signup info for the September 20 meal packing!

Community Meal in September

The Community Meal will be joining with the All-Church worship and Picnic on Sunday, September 18.  Our regular Community Meal will resume with its fall schedule beginning on Sunday, October 16, with the meal beginning at noon.

DPC Food Drive

The need at our local food pantries is growing by the day. DPC hosts a monthly food drive for the Bucks County Housing Group and New Britain Food Larder on the third Sunday of each month.  On Sunday, September 18, we will have our food drive collection before and after Worship in the Street.  Tables will be set up to collect your items … there will be no drive-by drop off this week.

Bethel Saturday Community Meal helpers:

Our congregation supports Bethel’s weekly meal program in Philadelphia. Volunteers are needed to help twice a month on Saturdays with Bethel’s Community Meal.  The time commitment is from 11 am. (leaving Doylestown) until returning home about 5:30 p.m.  If you would like to help, you can sign up for a Saturday that works for you here: https://bit.ly/DPC-BPC

Feed My Starving Children

Join our Mission Committee for a great volunteer activity as Anchor Presbyterian and Doylestown Presbyterian once again join together for a Feed My Starving Children packing.  This is a meaningful event for all ages and families to participate.

As a Christian nonprofit, FMSC is dedicated to seeing every child whole in body and spirit.

During the packing you will join with others to hand-pack rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags which are then sealed, boxed, placed on pallets and shipped to FMSC partners working hard to reach the neediest children around the world.

On Sunday, October 9, come to worship at DPC, followed by a simple soup lunch in the Celtic Cross Room.  We will then head to Delaware Valley University auditorium for the packing event which runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (arrive at 12:45 please).  There is room for at least 125 to sign up here: https://bit.ly/DPC-FMSC.  Please be sure to sign up all members of your family who will be participating.
