Soul-Full

Join us for uplifting, interactive singing led by renowned choral conductor Dr. J. Donald Dumpson and a special culinary presentation highlighting African-American cuisine from David Marable, Executive Director of the non-profit Amazing Grace Blessings.

We will gather on Sunday, March 13, at 3 pm in the sanctuary as Dr. Dumpson teams up with our Chancel Choir to help lead us all in spirited song. He’ll provide insight into the history and culture infused within selected African-American Spirituals as we continue to learn, grow, and expand our outlook.

Then we move to Fellowship Hall for an enlightening presentation and soul-food meal in accordance with current Covid protocols.

Dr. J. Donald Dumpson has devoted his life to arts ministry, education and performance. He has over 40 years of experience as a conductor/keyboardist, music minister, and events producer. Dr. Dumpson is the minister of music and arts at the Arch Street Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA and led the music ministry at Bright Hope Baptist Church from 1985- 2010. He is president and CEO of Diverse Arts Solutions, a division of J. Donald Dumpson Productions, LLC, as well as, the founding director of the Westminster Choir College Jubilee Singers and the Philadelphia Heritage Chorale. Donald obtained a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. in Music Education, all from Temple University. As stated on his website: Dr. Dumpson’s intergenerational work occurs within an educational, spiritual … and sociocultural framework. While he works with a broad range of art forms, his principal focus is the human voice. He believes that the human voice has been central in communicating messages from despair to jubilation, deprivation to abundance and from the impossible to the possible. His goal is to reduce artistic stereotypes that limit inclusion of art borne of the African diaspora.
