The Trinity

The Trinity is one of the most important theological commitments of the Christian church.  Imagine a faith without the Trinity.  That is to say, imagine that God is still God, that Jesus was just an ordinary man, and that there is no Holy Spirit.  Suddenly God sounds very far away, diconnected from human experience, and unconcerned with setting things right with the world.  When we talk about the Trinity, we're not just saying something about who God is, but also about how God works.  For God to have been made flesh in Christ and to have sent the Spirit to be with us is to be fully concerned and involved with what we humans are doing (or failing to do).  Another way that some people describe the three persons of the Trinity, rather than Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.

Think about the three persons of the Trinity—think about what they do, who they are, what we believe about them—and come up with a new word or phrase to name each of them (like "Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer").

As more comments are posted, feel free to look over those that have been posted to get ideas.  Don't be afraid to be creative!  It is extremely difficult to talk about God, so the more images we come up with (even if some seem wacky), the richer our discussion will be.
