DPC’s Library, located in Andrews Hall (AH-118), is open whenever the building is open.

Thanks to the wonderful donations from Sharon Shaw, we have an expanded and very much updated parenting section in the Library. These books are shelved in the 649 section. Just a few of the titles include Good Families Just Don’t Happen, Sibling without Rivalry, Confessions of a Happily Organized Family, Raising Confident Kids, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families, and Teaching Your Children Responsibility.

The Christian Education Committee donated the following book to our parenting section: To a Child Love is Spelled T-I-M-E by Mac Anderson and Lance Wubbels in honor of those who have faithfully served the children of DPC during the 2010-2011 program year: Maureen Arnold, Jenny Baker, Sharon Cummings, Linda and Bill Deeter, Amy and Dean Edenson, Christine Graham-Rawlings, Megan Jaeger, Maura Moore, Sherrie Murphy, Anne Murray, Kathy Tacconi, and Kristin Winters.

Unbroken, the second book by Laura Hillenbrand, the author of Seabiscuit, tells the enthralling and often grim story of Louie Zamperini. An Olympic runner during the 1930s, he flew B-24s during WWII. Taken prisoner by the Japanese, he endured a captivity harsh even by Japanese standards and was a physical and mental wreck at the end of the war. He was saved by the influence of Billy Graham, who inspired him to turn his life around, and afterward devoted himself to evangelical speeches and founding boys’ camps. Dr. Willingham used this book in one of his recent sermons.

Interviewed recently on Good Morning, America, Mary Beth Chapman spoke of her new book Choosing to See. Her work unveils her struggle to allow God to write the story of her life, both the happy chapters and the tragic ones. From the beginning, her life was not how she planned. All she wanted was a calm, peaceful life of stability and control. Instead, God gave her an award-winning singer/songwriter husband, crazy schedules and a houseful of creatively rambunctious children. And then, she experienced the tragedy she never could have imagined.

We ask you to check out all materials before you take them from the Library. Circulation is self-serve. Books can be borrowed for three weeks; CDs and DVDs for one week. Write your full name and the date (include the year) on the card found in the back of the item and leave the card in the box on the circulation desk.

Locating books and other materials is easy: just click on "Easy Word Search" and type in a title, subject, or author and click on "search." The list of available items will be displayed. Please note: because we do not track checked out books in the computer, all books will be marked as "in," when in fact they may be currently checked out.

Our CDs and DVDs are housed in the Library. In the collection, you will find music and movies appropriate for all ages.

The extensive children’s collection has titles that would supplement topics you might be discussing in classrooms. Books are donated by the Committee for each child born to or adopted by Church families.

Thanks to the over 50 donations by Zondervan in 2008, the youth collection has expanded greatly.

DPC’s Library and its resources are available to all Church School teachers. There is a special teachers' resource area located on the right-hand side of the shelf under the windows. These resources provide ideas for classroom activities, games, puzzles, bulletin boards, and more. They are divided into Arts and Crafts, Bible, Old Testament, New Testament, and Church Year. Check out for these items is the same as other Library items.

Located on the left-hand side of the shelf under the windows, magazines are available without check out. You are free to use these magazines in any way that is helpful to you. The Committee tries to keep the magazines weeded to the most current six months. We also invite you to donate your own current magazines.

Looking for prayer(s) and / or worship resources - look in section 242 - 248, or search on the Library’s computer.
