Church School

Church School for all ages takes place in Andrews Hall from 9:45 to 10:30.  This is a time for children to focus on specific biblical stories and themes in fun and creative ways.

Parents, while your children are in Church School, there are always several adult classes available, or you can enjoy coffee and fellowship in the Sacred Grounds Café in the Celtic Cross Room.

The Church School program at DPC is about to get a makeover.  From Monday to Friday every week, our children sit dutifully in classrooms, learning reading, writing, math, social studies, and many others.  Despite the dedicated and ceaselessly creative efforts of our many Church School teachers, the structure of our Sunday morning program has offered our children simply one more hour of school, the one thing they want nothing to do with on the weekend!  All of that is about to change.

Why Doesn't Church School Take Place During Worship?

At DPC we believe that it is extremely important that children be an integral part of our worshiping life together.  When Church School takes place during a worship service, children do not have the opportunity to experience worship, which makes it very difficult to instill in them a sense of the importance of worship.  For adults, too, worship is impaired when a whole group of our community of faith is excluded.  For our littlest ones, we offer care in our Nursery, and for children age 4 through 1st grade, we offer the option of leaving for a portion of the service for Children’s Worship Time, a time of age-appropriate worship that helps them learn to participate in the different parts of the service.

Church Buddies

These volunteers make themselves available to children within the Church School program who have special needs. Buddies attend classes with the children and help them participate and interact with the class in whatever ways possible. If you have a child who could benefit from a Buddy or has other special needs which you would like us to know about, please contact the the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Good Shepherd Program

At DPC, we believe that Christ has called us to reach out to children and youth with God's love. We consider this ministry a high calling and a sacred trust. Therefore, we are committed to doing everything within our power to protect these young people from the possibility of abuse or neglect. It is our hope and prayer that in the midst of a troubled world, DPC can be a place where children and youth are safe.

The Good Shepherd Program is a set of established policies and practices that are in place to ensure that our children and youth are always in a safe, nurturing environment.  For people who would like to work with children or youth, we require that they submit personal references and take part in a Good Shepherd training program after they have been members for at least six months.  If you would like to take the Good Shepherd training, please contact the church office.
